assignment: In my search for a graduation project I was immediately drawn towards online social communities. We all know MySpace, Facebook and the Dutch have their ‘Hyves’. Mixing this with some Web 2.0 like Wikipedia, blogs and other online phenomena I started reading Andrew Keen’s “The Cult of the Amateur”. Combining this amateurism with the photography of people’s avatars I started collecting peoples personal pictures from the Dutch online social network Hyves.

While collecting them they automatically fell into categories. For each category I selected a number of pictures and these (eight) categories together became a book. Every chapter starts with a quote and all quotes are listed with their source at the end of the book. Watch and enjoy.
